Equatorial Guinea increases number of international flights and eliminates curfew

The President updated the measures to fight the spread of Covid-19 in Equatorial Guinea.

The rules that are now applicable can be summarized as follows:

  • New: Elimination of the curfew in all national territory.
  • New: The number of international flights has been increased and all international companies operating in Equatorial Guinea are now allowed to operate four flights per week. Negative PCR/antigen certificates and vaccination cards are required for passengers boarding all flights, regardless of airline company, including charter flights.
  • A mandatory quarantine of 3 days is maintained: All passengers arriving in EG, by air, sea or land, must comply with the mandatory quarantine of 3 days at an approved hotel and bear their own expenses.
  • New: Maritime transport between Malabo and Bata is now authorized without restrictions depending on the availability of the shipping companies and with a maximum capacity of 250 passengers for the Viteoca y San Valentín shipping lines. Proof of a negative PCR/antigen test and the vaccination card for citizens over the age of 18 will be required to purchase the ticket, check-in and board. The operation of the Elobey vessel to transport cargo, goods and passengers is subject to an authorization by the competent authorities and is limited to 50% capacity. Proof of a negative PCR/antigen test and presentation of the vaccination card are also required for both passengers and crew members over the age of 18.
  • Interactions with the local authorities will require the submission of the vaccination card for citizens over the age of 18.
  • Banks, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and all other establishments open to the public must require the presentation of the vaccination card for citizens over the age of 18.
  • Vaccination against Covid-19 is mandatory for all civil servants. Vaccination against Covid-19 is mandatory for all residents in national territory, both nationals and foreigners, over the age of 18. Penalties may be applied.
  • New: Nightclubs are now authorized to open and casinos, bars, parks, restaurants, pools and beaches remain opened, but must not exceed 50% capacity and entrance is subject to the presentation of the vaccination card for citizens over the age of 18.
  • Taxis can carry three passengers at a time, but must comply with the COVID-19 prevention measures. Public and private transports of passengers in the urban areas must not exceed 50% of capacity and drivers and passengers over the age of 18 will also be required to show their vaccination cards. Penalties will be applied. Public and private transportation of passengers between districts and provinces is allowed provided that capacity does not exceed 50%. The presentation of a vaccination card is mandatory for citizens over the age of 18. In addition to the vaccination card, those traveling from Malabo and Bata will need to show proof of a negative PCR/antigen test taken in the previous 48 hours.
  • The transport of goods and materials within the country is authorized, provided that the driver presents their vaccination card (and a negative PCR/antigen test taken in the previous 48 hours, in case the transport is to and from Malabo or Bata).
  • Acts of worship of all religious confessions are allowed to take place, as long as social distancing of 1.5 m and venue capacity limitation rules (50% capacity) are observed. The correct use of face masks and good hand hygiene must also be observed. Penalties will be applied.
  • Birthday parties, baptism and wedding celebrations, as well as the attendance of funeral ceremonies are allowed but must not exceed 50% capacity. Penalties will be applied.
  • The use of masks, hand hygiene and social distancing are mandatory. Penalties will be applied.
  • In case of a large number of new cases of Covid-19 in a certain area (neighborhood, city, province), the same can be isolated to avoid contagion, until the full recovery of the population.

The abovementioned rules were approved by means of Decree No. 23/2022, of 18 March 2022, which partially amends Decree No. 4/2022, of 21 January 2022 and is effective as of 21 March 2022.
