On January 17, 2023 Timor-Leste deposited its instrument of accession to the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards (New York Convention) with the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
 
The referred deposit followed the accession to the New York Convention, approved by the National Parliament through Resolution No. 8/2021, of 17 March 2021.
 
The New York Convention will come into force in Timor-Leste ninety (90) days after the deposit, that is, on April 17, 2023, and Timor-Leste will thus become the 172nd Contracting State.
