The Regulation of the Free Zones Law was approved by means of Presidential Decree No. 4/21, of 4 January 2021, and came into force on the same date.

Among other things, the new statute establishes the terms for the creation of free zones, the entity responsible for their supervision, and the powers of the free zone managing entity. It also provides for the creation of an investor counter for each free zone. The Regulations further include provisions on various operational aspects of free zones, such as the control of the entry and exit of goods into/from the free zone.
