The public tender for the selection of the entities that will develop and finance the Lobito Refinery project is underway.
The construction of this Refinery is part of the Executive’s strategy to reduce dependence on the importation of refined petroleum products and falls within the creation of a local industrial hub. The anticipated maximum processing capacity of the refinery is 200,000 barrels per day.
The potential of the project is boosted by the existence of various key infrastructures in the vicinity: (i) the Lobito deep-water harbor; (ii) the Benguela railway, which extends to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia; and (iii) the planned oil pipeline between Angola and Zambia.
The project is expected to create 8,000 direct and indirect jobs in the construction phase of the refinery, and another 4,000 in the production phase.
According to the tender schedule, interested companies should register by 29 August.
