International flights restored, mandatory quarantine and curfew hours reduced
The President updated the measures to fight the spread of Covid-19 in Equatorial Guinea.
The new rules can be summarized as follows:
- New: The curfew in all national territory has been reduced: it is now from 0:00 am to 6:00 am.
- New: International flights have been restored and all international companies operating in Equatorial Guinea are now allowed to operate two flights per week. PCR certificates and vaccination cards are required for passengers boarding all flights, regardless of airline company, including charter flights.
- New: Mandatory quarantine was reduced to 3 days: All passengers arriving in EG, by air, sea or land, must comply with the mandatory quarantine of 3 days at an approved hotel and bear their own expenses. Members of the Diplomatic Corps may carry out the mandatory quarantine at home.
- New: Banks, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and any other establishments must require the presentation of the vaccination card.
- New: The number of domestic flights operated by CEIBA and Cronos has been increased. Each company can now operate three flights per day.
- New: Maritime transport between Malabo and Bata is maintained, at the rate of three weekly trips per shipping company, and with a maximum capacity of 250 passengers for the Viteoca and San Valentín shipping lines. Proof of a negative PCR test and the vaccination card will be required to purchase the ticket, check-in and board. The Elobey vessel operation is authorized to transport cargo and goods. Passenger transportation may be authorized by the competent authority and is limited to 50% of its capacity. Proof of a negative PCR test and presentation of the vaccination card are also required for the passengers and the crew.
- Vaccination against Covid-19 is mandatory for all residents in national territory, both nationals and foreigners, over the age of 18. Penalties will be applied.
- New: Vaccination against Covid-19 will be mandatory for all civil servants. Penalties will only apply after 15 March 2022.
- Interactions with the local authorities will require the submission of the vaccination card.
- Public and private transportation of passengers between districts and provinces will be allowed, provided that capacity does not exceed 50%. The presentation of a vaccination card is mandatory. In addition to the vaccination card, those traveling from Malabo and Bata will need to show proof of a negative PCR test taken in the previous 48 hours.
- New: Taxis can now carry three passengers at a time. Drivers and passengers in taxis in the Malabo and Bata urban areas will also be required to show their vaccination card. Penalties will be applied.
- New: Nightclubs remain closed. However, casinos, bars, parks, restaurants, pools and beaches are open, but must not exceed 50% capacity and are subject to curfew hours and the presentation of the vaccination card. Birthday parties, baptism and wedding celebrations, as well as the attendance of funeral ceremonies are allowed but must not exceed 50% capacity. Penalties will be applied.
- The transport of goods and materials within the country is authorized, provided that the driver presents their vaccination card (and a negative PCR test taken in the previous 48 hours in case the transport is to and from Malabo or Bata).
- Acts of worship of all religious confessions are allowed to take place, as long as social distancing of 1.5 m and venue capacity limitation rules (50% capacity) are observed. The correct use of face masks and good hand hygiene must also be observed. Penalties will be applied.
- Students returning from abroad after completing their studies, will need to present a PCR certificate when boarding the plane. Once in national territory, and after completing the mandatory quarantine, they will need to be vaccinated if they have not yet been vaccinated in the country where they studied.
- In case of a large number of new cases of Covid-19 in a certain area (neighborhood, city, province), the same can be isolated to avoid contagion, until the full recovery of the population.
- The use of masks, hand hygiene and social distancing are mandatory.
The abovementioned rules were approved by means of Decree No. 4/2022, of 21 January 2022, which partially amends Decree No. 1/2021, of 5 January 2022 and is effective as of 24 January 2022.
