COVID-19: Preventive Measures
In order to manage the Covid-19 virus outbreak, the Government of Guinea Bissau adopted, on 18 March 2020, the following precautionary measures:
- Banning the use of all national markets, except for the sale of essential foodstuffs;
- Prohibiting the people’s access to bathing areas, and other places of significant gatherings (e.g. churches and mosques);
- Closing of schools, restaurants, bars, and street stalls;
- Instructing the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports to negotiate with the country’s sports federations the suspension of the national championships and tournaments;
- Closing of all national borders with all countries, except in cases related to humanitarian issues and the importation of essential foodstuffs;
- Suspending the weekly meetings of the Council of Ministers, except for urgent special sessions;
- Instructing the Inter-ministerial Committee for the Monitoring and Prevention of Coronavirus to provide facilities to act, if necessary, as quarantine centers for those infected with Covid-19.
