COVID-19: Partial Lifting of Lockdown Measures
On 30 June 2020, the Gabonese Prime Minister announced that the lockdown measures in place since the State of Emergency was declared on 10 April 2020 would be relaxed from 1 July 2020 onwards, as follows:
- Residents must remain in their homes between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM, subject to obtaining a special authorization from the Ministry of Interior.
- Regular working hours have been resumed.
- Land and sea borders remain closed, except for carriage of food and other cargo and oil and gas supplies. Air borders have been reopened. However, short-term visas for citizens of the 27 European Union countries coming to Gabon for tourism or business trips remain suspended.
- Land, train, air and sea travel within Gabon is now authorized. Transportation companies must comply with strict social distancing and hygiene measures. Passengers must present a COVID-19 negative certificate, wear a mask, pass a temperature check, and consent to the disinfection of their luggage.
- The number of authorized passengers in public transportation vehicles has been increased.
- Restaurants and hotels have been allowed to reopen, subject to complying with a sanitary guide issued by the Government.
- Schools will reopen from 13 July 2020 onwards for specific activities and classes.
- Places of worship still remain closed, but could shortly reopen.
- Residents must wear masks at all times in public places, and comply with social distancing and hygiene precautions.
- Gatherings of more than 10 persons are still prohibited, including at social or family events. Public events such as conferences and concerts also remain prohibited.
